The Meaning Behind Our Name
What "Ishavasyam" Means
Ishavasyam means Ishwar Ka Vaas — where God exists. It comes from the first word of the first mantra of the Isha Upanishad, the 40th and final chapter of the Shukla Yajurveda Samhita, and one of the Principal Upanishads.
For us, the name Ishavasyam is a reminder to see the Divine in everything we do — with gratitude, responsibility, and reverence for nature, people, animals and food.
From the Founder's Heart
When I began this journey in 2014, I wasn't trying to build a food company.
I was trying to answer a simple question:
How do we bring truly honest food back to people's homes?
That single question led me across India. For nearly two years, I travelled through villages, farms, gaushalas, and remote communities to understand how our food was once grown, how indigenous cows were cared for, and why the purity of our traditional food systems was slowly disappearing.
The more I travelled, the more I realised that exceptional food never begins in the kitchen.
It begins at the source.
It begins with the farmer.
It begins with the soil.
And it begins with the way we treat the living world around us.
My love for natural food, indigenous cows and traditional ways of living eventually became the foundation of Ishavasyam.
It led me to create food products that are made with care, respect for their origins, and a commitment to keeping them as close as possible to their natural and traditional form.
Desi Cows, Much More Than a Source of Milk
At Ishavasyam, we don't see our cows as producers of milk.
We see them as living beings that deserve the same love, dignity and respect that every life deserves.
A connection that goes beyond the ordinary
A cow-dung bath may seem unusual today, but for us, it represents a willingness to experience and understand traditions that have been part of Indian rural life for generations. Traditionally, cow dung has also been valued for its cleansing and skin-soothing properties.
For us, their worth is never measured by the number of litres of milk they produce. Our responsibility towards them doesn't begin when they start producing milk, nor does it end when they stop. This is one of the principles I hold closest to my heart.
We know that different dairy systems follow different practices. They care for a cow only while she remains commercially productive. At Ishavasyam, we choose a different path. We continue to care for our cows throughout their lives with the same compassion, nourishment and gratitude even after they are no longer producing milk.
Because gratitude should never have an expiry date.
To us, they are not assets. They are family.
We work closely with farmers, Desi Gaupalaks and dairy partners who share these values, encouraging ethical cattle care, responsible farming practices, and respect for indigenous breeds. Every partnership we build is rooted in trust, compassion and a shared commitment to preserving India's rich agricultural heritage.
Our elders have always believed that the intention with which food is produced becomes a part of the food itself. Ayurveda repeatedly reminds us that the source of our nourishment matters just as much as the nourishment itself. This ancient wisdom has guided every decision we make.
Honouring Traditional Knowledge
Our philosophy extends beyond the farm and the cows.
For our honey, we work with indigenous and tribal communities in Kerala, where the traditional practice of wild honey harvesting has been passed down through generations.
For these communities, honey represents much more than a product.
It is a traditional livelihood, a connection with the forest, and knowledge passed down from one generation to the next.
Deep within Kerala's Wayanad forests, wild rock bees (Apis Dorsata) build their open-air combs high on trees, cliffs and rocky surfaces.
These bees are not raised in hives — they live and forage freely in the forest.
Harvesting their honey is a traditional skill, carried through generations by indigenous and tribal communities, often from challenging terrain.
We believe this traditional wisdom should be respected, protected and preserved for the generations to come.
Building the Right Company
This journey has never been about building the biggest company. It has always been about building the right company.
A company that honours Indian farmers.
A company that preserves indigenous cattle.
A company that protects traditional food wisdom.
A company that places integrity before scale.
To me, these are not marketing claims. They are values.
Over the years, people have often asked me why our products cost more than mass-produced alternatives.
The answer is simple.
Authenticity takes time. Traditional methods require skilled hands. And when every step is performed with care rather than convenience, the final product naturally reflects that effort.
We would rather make our food products slowly and honestly than make them quickly simply to make more of them.
For over a decade, this belief has remained at the heart of Ishavasyam.
What began with a desire to bring honest, traditionally rooted food to people's homes continues to grow with the same purpose.
Today, Gir Cow Ghee and Honey are part of that journey.
And as Ishavasyam grows, we hope to bring a wider range of thoughtfully sourced, traditionally rooted foods to your home, without compromising on the values that have guided us from the beginning.
Because growth, for us, is not about making more for the sake of more.
It is about bringing more good food to more homes, the right way.
